Robert is the managing partner of the Beijing office of Lovells, and has more than twenty years of experience as legal advisor to both PRC and international clients on numerous projects, in particular, those relating to telecommunications, infrastructure, financing, corporate restructuring, direct investment and cross border commercial disputes. Robert has been based in the PRC and Hong Kong since 1993, and has acted on several notable transactions, including the 2008 Beijing Olympics National Stadium and Swimming Centre Project (acting as international legal advisor to the Beijing State Asset Management Co Limited), the Laibin B power plant project in Guangxi China, the Three Gorges Rights Bank project, the Shanghai water treatment plant BOT project etc. Robert is fluent in spoken Mandarin and written Chinese.

Prior to joining Lovells, Robert was General Counsel, Asia for Nortel Networks and before that worked with one of the world's largest law firms (as a member of the China practice team) and a leading American law firm (in the banking and corporate group).

Robert's international law firm, and multinational corporation management background has equipped him with extensive know-how and experience in both legal professional skills training, and law firm and corporate legal department management training. Apart from planning and designing, and conducting such training programs for both licensed and practicing lawyers and in-house corporate legal counsel, Robert also actively participates in legal skills training programs held externally, and has spoken at several workshops and seminars worldwide. He has also served as a lecturer at the Department of Law, Fudan University in Shanghai. Robert has been appointed as the only foreign expert on the All China Lawyers' Association Legal Education Committee, providing support to and promoting the continued development of the local Chinese bar.
